This dress is very well made and very cute. My daughter loved it so much she wanted to wear it multiple times over the holiday weekend, so I know it was comfortable as she can be picky about her clothes. Sizing was exactly as expected, with the tie straps on the shoulder there is some cushion if your child is in between sizes with the length. My daughter is almost 10 and slender, still fits in an 8 for shorts and shirts, and the size 8y fit perfectly. Honestly, she could probably still fit it next year as long as she doesn't grow too much since the material does have a some stretch to it.
